It’s the start of 2019 – and it’s a “New Year in Beer”™. I thought of this theme to push myself outside my comfort zone and try beers that I’d always skipped over at the beer store. The dark thick stouts, high alcohol beers, weird sours, and crazy hoppy hops. I wanted to taste it all – good, bad, weird, wonderful.
Beer Ye! Beer Ye!
For Volume 50… FIFTY!! PEOPLE!!… we decided to each bring our favourite beer of 2018 that may or may not have had the chance to be represented in a 2018 Beerstitution Volume. This way, we could each be certain that the beer that we feel (most) in love with during the calendar year of 2018 would have a fair shot at being crowned Byear of the Year in 2019. There we were, mid-November, and nary a Volume 49 in sight. With end of the year madness and Christmas looming, many of us were short in the spare time department to organize Volume 49. When the itch was too much to bare, I piped up and organized a Habstitution at St-Bock where we would gather ’round, try a bunch of beers and watch the Habs (get whalloped by the Devils it turned out) one wintery eve in November. Dearly beerloved we are gathered here today to celebrate yet another glorious year passing in the annals of Beerstitution lore. This makes the 4th installment of the Byear in Review in an unbroken chain of 47 Beerstitutions in a row. They haven’t all been barn burners, some turning into casual drinks in the park or 2 or three souls braving the the cold to raise a glass to make it “official,” to the mayhem that was unleashed at Belgian theme or the unbridled chaos that was Pilsner night.
