For this volume, I decided to revisit and oldie but a goldie: the mighty IPA! The theme for the very first Beerstitution way back when was IPA so it’s about time we jumped back into IPAs what with 85,000 new IPAs having been released since then.Read More
As we know, the arrival of summer in Montreal means the city is gearing up for it’s “other” season. With warmer days arriving, it’s time to crack out some sunny beers. Gose got me thinking of the theme, but there are IPAs, Session ales, fruity beers, lagers, and everything light, fun, and ready for long sunny days. Read More
Beer Ye! Beer Ye!
With Spring in mind, if not in the air, I wanted to launch us into the warm weather and floral bounty that is this wondrous season with mouthfuls of floral goodness. The theme I chose, FLORAL, was in fact not that easy to find beers for even though “floral” is one of the most often quoted aspects of hop flavours and aromas. At any rate, My goal here was to isolate said floral-ness and see if we enjoyed it in the absence of the citrus, bitter bombs we also get from the normal hop suspects…Read More
Saisons are made to refresh. They’re a brew that was traditionally made with whatever to be drank by whoever. As unpretentious and amiable as you’d find in a lager, but a saison carries a certain joie de vivre: a literal zest for life. It’s just what a Montrealer needs in April to wish the snow away into memory, or better yet – to forget it. Read More
An ancient practice shrouded in mystery and practice by the best mages out there, lead to this month’s theme : ALCHEMY.
After months, maybe years of talking about this edition, we finally did it! Instead of trying to turn beer into gold as pure mages would do, we decided to mix beers with … well other drinks, to check if we could improve our beer tasting experience or if beer was better on it’s own.
Welcome to this edition, and please try this at home. Read More
It’s the start of 2019 – and it’s a “New Year in Beer”™. I thought of this theme to push myself outside my comfort zone and try beers that I’d always skipped over at the beer store. The dark thick stouts, high alcohol beers, weird sours, and crazy hoppy hops. I wanted to taste it all – good, bad, weird, wonderful.
Beer Ye! Beer Ye!
For Volume 50… FIFTY!! PEOPLE!!… we decided to each bring our favourite beer of 2018 that may or may not have had the chance to be represented in a 2018 Beerstitution Volume. This way, we could each be certain that the beer that we feel (most) in love with during the calendar year of 2018 would have a fair shot at being crowned Byear of the Year in 2019. This was, I think, the highest scoring Volume of all time. Don’t quote me on this but wow did we have some amazing beer tonight! Also, 7 beers for 5 attendees? Good for us!Read More
There we were, mid-November, and nary a Volume 49 in sight. With end of the year madness and Christmas looming, many of us were short in the spare time department to organize Volume 49. When the itch was too much to bare, I piped up and organized a Habstitution at St-Bock where we would gather ’round, try a bunch of beers and watch the Habs (get whalloped by the Devils it turned out) one wintery eve in November. Twas a quiet night on the Plateau, when 4 friends decided to meet up to have an October beerstitution since they missed Beau’s oktoberfest (or just can’t remember it). Read More
